shortlist for the 2014 Fifa Ballon d'Or.
The Real Madrid attacker, 29, could win
the prestigious individual award for a
third time after lifting the trophy in 2008
and 2013.
Ronaldo played a key role in Madrid's
successful Champions League campaign
last season, scoring 17 goals to set a new
record for most goals scored in the
competition in one season.
Barcelona star Messi, meanwhile, is in
contention to scoop the accolade for a
record fifth time, and has hit top form in
recent weeks to add weight to his case.
The 27-year-old attacker did not win any
major trophies with Barcelona in 2014,
but enjoyed a successful season on a
personal level as he became both La Liga
and Champions League all-time top
scorer in November.
Neuer, finally, makes the three-man
shortlist for the first time in his career and
could become the first goalkeeper since
Lev Yashin in 1963 to be voted the
world's best footballer.
The 28-year-old won the Bundesliga title
and DFB Pokal with Bayern Munich,
before crowning a superb year by winning
the World Cup with Germany.
Other favourites such as Thomas Muller,
Toni Kroos, Arjen Robben and Philipp
Lahm miss out on a podium spot.
Fifa and France Football will announce the
winner on January 12 at the Fifa Ballon
d'Or Gala.

Crazy fan throws bottle at Messi after late win against Valencia

Lionel Messi was struck on the head by a bottle as the players celebrated Sergio Busquets' stoppage-time winning goal against valencia on Sunday night.

The Argentine star had played a part in creating the goal after his cross had found Neymar, whose header was saved before Busquets lashed home the rebound to seal a 1-0 win in the 94th minute.

Barca players enthusiastically reacted to the match-winning strike and soon jumped on the goalscorer near the corner flag after he had slid to the ground in celebration, at which point Messi was hit by the object thrown from a section of the home support.

As the away players began heading back to the centre circle following the goal, Messi was still down on the ground clutching and rubbing his head. He was helped up to his feet by Rafinha, at which point he picked up the bottle with which he had been struck and threw it off the pitch.

The 27-year-old then rushed to the referee and protested while holding his head, only to be shown a yellow card with the official believing he was trying to waste time.

The final whistle blew just seconds after the re-start and Messi hugged a few of his team-mates despite being visibly irritated by the incident. He then stopped to receive treatment from the onrushing physio, with a cut already evident on his forehead.

The attacker continued to rub his head and returned to the referee in a second attempt to explain what had taken place before he left the field of play holding a tissue to the spot of his injury, giving the home support an ironic thumbs-up signal as he entered the tunnel.

Valencia released an official statement after the match pledging to ban the perpetrator from the Mestalla for life if they are tracked down. 

"Valencia CF regret and condemn the isolated incident in the game against FC Barcelona, in which a small, uncapped bottle of water was thrown from the stands at opposition player Lionel Messi," read the statement.

"The club will endeavour to locate the person who threw the bottle, and they will be banned for life from Mestalla. Valencia CF operate a zero tolerance policy on such actions and rigorously enforce all security measures set out by legislation."

Ace actor Will Smith and wife met with ex-wife Sheree Fletcher at their son's birthday party in Las Vegas.

Will and Sheree had a son, Trey Smith before their divorce in 1993. He later married Jada Pinkett Smith in 1995 with whom he has two kids, Willow and Jayden.

Chinedu Ubachukwu becomes Gulder Ultimate man

Chinedu Ubachukwu has emerged winner of the 2014 Gulder Ultimate Search.

The last task involved going right into the belly of the Aguleri forest in Anambra state to retrieve the Warrior's Helmet and each of the boys were required to paddle a canoe to reach the shore where it was conspicuously placed.

Only Chinedu managed to reach there in time, claiming the prize, while the others were lost at sea.

Just like others who have won the TV reality show based on adventure, he will be going home with plenty of cash. According to Nigerian Breweries, the winner will go home with 10 million Naira and a brand new SUV.

 There will also be a grand reception for the winner and others who took part in the GUS: The Mission. Before the final lap of the show, all the female and some of the male contestants had been evicted leaving three males to compete in the final round.

Chinedu Ubachukwu has now officially been inducted into the hall of fame of Gulder Ultimate warriors by anchor, Chidi Mokeme.

By 11pm tonight when the final episode of this year’s edition of Gulder Ultimate Search, Africa’s longest running reality TV programme, would have aired, a new winner would have emerged. One of the four remaining contestants on the show would have found the great General’s Helmet thus bringing an end to a Mission for which over thousands of individuals registered to be a part of.

Of the 14 contestants that were selected from over 40,000 applicants to enter the Aguleri jungle, only four remain. They are Otto Canon, a 25 year old undergraduate, Nne Cosy Joe, a 28 year graduate of Agric Science, Emmanuel Afolabi, a 29 year old undergraduate and 24 year old Chinedu Ubachukwu, also an undergraduate.

For the millions of viewers of Gulder Ultimate Search 11, the anxiety
and excitement over who is crowned the new ultimate champion is fever pitch. However, for the remaining contestants, the journey to the final stage of the show has been long and tortuous.

They have progressed through several phases on this year’s edition; including the precision phase, the survivor phase and the innovation phase. They were also inducted into the Elite Squad of the great General’s Army.

The remaining contestants are also not leaving anything to chance as they have been assessing their fellow contestants’ strengths and weaknesses ahead of an epic battle to locate the helmet.Chinedu said Otto is strong in solving riddles but weak in solving puzzles. Chinedu also pointed out that Emmanuel is not too good with puzzles.

He further revealed that Cosy is better at solving puzzles and not very good with riddles.Emmanuel said he never expected he would be among the four finalists for Gulder Ultimate Search 11.

He also confessed that he was not good with puzzles. Emmanuel however said he’s working on improving his puzzle solving skill. He said: “Over time, I’ve learnt to stay calm, paint a mental picture before I start working, and while I am working with my hands, my head is thinking ahead.”Emmanuel described Chinedu as a proud and arrogant person.

He hinted that these attributes may lead to his downfall. Cosy corroborated Emmanuel’s claims. He said: “Chinedu is erratic and the type of confidence he has may also be suicidal.”Cosy assessed Emmanuel as a contestant who is good with riddles but not with puzzles. Cosy confessed that he can be easily beaten in riddles.

He noted: “They can beat me in riddles. It’s always funny when someone uses his own knowledge to set a question for me and you expect me to get the answer.”Otto also confessed that he was not too good with solving puzzles. Otto’s fate of continuing in Gulder Ultimate Search 11 hangs in the balance as he failed Episode 25’s Code Box task.

The winner of Gulder Ultimate Search 11 will drive home a brand new SUV in addition to the N10 million grand prize money.For the first time in three years, no female contestant will be part of the final search. Samantha Appi, who emerged as the Last Woman Standing was evicted in Episode 25 after failing the Infinity task.

Her performance in the reality TV programme has been described as marvellous and even earned her respect from both her male and female contestants. Being the smallest of the seven female contestants did not deter her.

After emerging the Last Woman Standing, Samatha said she felt very good, adding that she thoroughly enjoyed her stay as a contestant.

Speaking on her achievements despite her small frame, Samatha noted: It’s not really about my size but about my thinking capabilities. And most of the time, my size was my motivation.

People thought I will not be able to do some things because they think I am fragile due to my small frame. But I look at myself and I tell myself, I know I can do this even though people think I can’t do it.”For the first time in the history of Gulder Ultimate Search, the Last Woman Standing will drive home a brand new Ford Eco sport.

This is in addition to the amount that will accrue to her as the fifth placed contestant.Gulder has recorded another first as the beer brand will also give the contestant who emerges as the winner of the on-going Viewers’ Choice a brand new Ford Focus car.

Arsene Wenger set to quit Arsenal, Madrid coach possible replacement

Arsenal's manager, Wenger is speculated to exit the club in the 2015/2016 season, while Madrid assistant coach, Paul Clement is being rumoured as a replacement for the Frenchman.

Although Wenger has been hugely successful at Arsenal, his side's FA Cup win last season was the first piece of silverware they lifted since 2005, and there have been calls for the Frenchman to take his leave.

Paul Clement, 42 has never held a manager job but has coached at Chelsea, PSG and presently, Madrid.

WHO to test Ebola vaccines in Switzerland this week

The World Health is set to commence testing of Ebola vaccines in Switzerland this week, after been given the approval by the authorities, tuesday.

Swiss authorities announced they would allow trials of an experimental vaccine produced by British pharmaceutical
GlaxoSmithKine, and would conduct tests on some 120 individuals at the CHUV hospital in Lausanne Friday, the hospital said.

“We have never before received so many volunteers so quickly,” Blaise Genton, who heads CHUV’s infectuous
disease division told reporters.

He said the volunteers, who must be between the ages of 18 and 65, were mainly medical students and would
all receive 800 Swiss francs ($845, 665 euros) for their participation.

Genton stressed they would receive payment for their time, since they would be spending “numerous hours with us”.

Most of the volunteers will receive the experimental GSK vaccine called ChAd3, which is based on a genetically modified chimpanzee adenovirus, but 20 of
them would receive a placebo (dummy medicine containing no active ingredients)

Nick Cannon donates $2 million dollar shoes to New York children's hospital

 

Nick Cannon wants to help keep a New York City children's hospital open by donating the stunning $2 million diamond-encrusted shoes he wore to the America's Got Talent final show to the board of directors of the hospital.

The actor, rapper and TV host had the costly pair custom-made for him by designer Jason Arashenen, each shoe boasting more than 14,000 full-cut diamonds set in white gold, with a weight of 340 carats.

He showed off the fancy shoes during the last episode of America's Got Talent's 9th season on September 14th.

He said, "I'm on the board for St. Mary's so we're gonna do it for the children in those hospitals and save some hospitals."

"I want to keep this children's hospital going. It's one of the oldest children's hospitals in New York. You go in there and it puts everything in a proper perspective. You see all that they're going through and that they can still have a smile on their face. I get so much out of it."

Oh no, Ebola hits New York!

A US doctor, Craig Spencer who recently returned from Guinea, West Africa has tested positive for Ebola, days after his return.

The 33 year old doctor of Columbia Presbyterian Hospital treated Ebola patients in Guinea working for Doctors Without Borders.

This is the first case of Ebola to hit the state, and the fourth diagnosed case in the United states.

I pray they also pull through this like we did...

The Intern4Jobs aims to empower young people with the practical skills they need to get jobs through its network of Internship Partners who take on young graduates into their firms and train them on the job for a period of 3 – 6 months.

The on-the-job training is structured to ensure that the interns are employable and are able to take up jobs within a month of their training being concluded – through a structured curriculum and a network of Mentor4Jobs and Coach4Jobs to closely supervise them.

“There are 64 million youths in Nigeria (under-35). Over 54 percent of that population is unemployed according to the National Bureau of Statistics,” said Ayodeji Adewunmi, Jobberman CEO.

“Over 200,000 of young people come out of school each year. Over
90 percent of them are unable to find jobs. For a country already suffering violence, crime and acute insecurity, this is a crisis. And all hands need to be on deck to own the solution to this problem.”

Mfon Ekpo, Chief Operating Officer of TFP and a Fellow of President Obama’s Mandela Washington Fellowship, added that “Young people are mostly tired of motivation and nice words – they want to see the opportunities that exist and take advantage of them.”
